Fun Fall Activities in Pittsburgh for Families

Pumpkins. Scarecrows. Falling leaves.

Fall is such a remarkable time of the year. As the weather gets a bit cooler, it’s time for some family fun that can only happen in Autumn.

Whether this is your first time experiencing fall in Pittsburgh because you just moved to the area, or you’re a lifelong resident who’s ready to enjoy this season, then check out five fun fall activities in Pittsburgh for both adults and kids.

1. Autumnfest

If you’re asking yourself, “where are the fall events near me?” Start with Autumnfest, one of the best fall festivals in Pittsburgh. Autumnfest takes place at Seven Springs Mountain Resort where they have so many activities for everyone.

Autumnfest takes place on Saturdays and Sundays September 29 – October 21, 2018. Each weekend during Autumnfest showcases fun family themes!
Starting with Oktoberfest Circus at the end of September to multiple events throughout October, you are sure to find something for the entire family. Make it a weekend getaway with a mountain lodging package!

2. Pumpkin Patch Trolley

What’s fall without a visit to the pumpkin patch? With Pittsburgh’s Pumpkin Patch Trolley, you and your family get to ride a trolley to the pumpkin patch to pick out a pumpkin courtesy of the Pennsylvania Trolley Museum.

This fall event runs October 13-15 and October 20-22 and 27-29. How cool would it be to replace the typical tractor ride to the pumpkin patch with an actual trolley?

3. Monster Pumpkins Festival

Check out Pittsburgh’s new signature fall event, the Monster Pumpkins Festival, October 20-21, 2018 at the Northshore River Walk. See giant pumpkins (sometimes more than1,200 pounds each) decorated and carved. Also, enjoy tons of free family fun including craft and food vendors, a kids zone, hayrides and plenty of giant pumpkin excitement.

As an added treat, cheer on your favorite rowers as they race in super-buoyant carved-out giant pumpkins in the Monster Pumpkin Paddle boat races on the Allegheny River.

4. Country Fall Festival

Celebrate autumn with an old-fashioned country festival October 13-14, 2018 in Zelienople and Harmony, PA. Stroll the sidewalks of these historic towns and enjoy a variety of festival events, music, food, farmer’s market, historical encampments, farm pets and pony rides, antiques, crafters, and a free horse-drawn trolley wagon ride!

5. ZooBoo

Lions. Tigers. Bears. And witches. The Pittsburg Zoo hosts an annual ZooBoo. Bring the kiddos for this awesome event. They can see all the animals while trick or treating. They can even pack crafts and show off their Halloween costumes. This is a great way to celebrate both Halloween and fall in Pennsylvania.

Who doesn’t love the zoo? This is a definite win-win for everyone. Head on out to ZooBoo October 20-21 and October 27-28, 2018.
